About
Filecoin Foundation, established in 2021 as the independent steward of the Filecoin network originally created by Protocol Labs in 2014, supports decentralized storage and the InterPlanetary File System ecosystem. The Foundation, headquartered in the United States with a globally distributed team, administers grants, governance facilitation, research and education that advance open, verifiable storage for digital preservation, AI datasets and Web3 archiving. Filecoin itself offers verifiable storage deals and data availability secured by proof-of-replication. The Foundation coordinates upgrades, community events and public goods funding independent of Protocol Labs' engineering. Backed by ecosystem contributions, it emphasizes long-term data persistence. The Foundation funds accelerator programs, storage audits and governance tooling that help storage providers maintain verifiable deals and long-term preservation guarantees. Expect a nonprofit, ecosystem-driven culture centered on storage reliability, open development and expanding practical decentralized infrastructure for data-intensive builders worldwide.
